Viking Volleyball spike towards championship

The Grand View women’s volleyball team has kept up with their winning ways. The Vikings finished their season on a nine game win streak and rank No. 9 in the national standings. After winning the regular season Heart of America championship and the Heart of America tournament championship, the team has earned a bye in the 2016 NAIA Women’s Volleyball National Championship opening round.

To receive a first round bye and automatically advance to the national championship final site in Sioux City Iowa, a team must rank within the top 19 seeds or be the host of the national championship, which is Morningside this year.vv11

As for who the Vikings will square off against next, the girls are still awaiting the final say. The pools for the finals will be determined on Sunday, Nov. 20, and released by 5 p.m.

“Having a first round bye is nice because we don’t have to worry about making nationals, we’re already there. Now it is just a waiting game,͟” said sophomore Courtney Twit.

Pool play will start Tuesday, Nov. 22 for the Vikings. Depending on how they do, the sweet sixteen and elite eight will follow on Friday, Nov. 25. The final four and championship games will be held on Saturday, Nov. 26
