The District at Prairie Trail, opened in 2007 in Ankeny, Iowa. The District, which hosts more than 75 businesses, including restaurants, shops and activities like an arcade and a craft workshop. The District has inspired other Iowa cities, including Grimes, Waukee and Bondurant, to build their own town-center-style districts, according to the Des Moines Business Record.
