Finding Your [Martini] Match

Tiramisu, oatmeal cookie, chocolate and key lime. The catch? These are not desserts. They are different flavored martinis offered

at two martini hotspots in downtown Des Moines.

The Stuffed Olive and The Lift specialize in award-winning martinis. Although both bars produce delicious martinis, they also

offer nightly specials and dramatically different atmospheres to set them apart from one another.

The Stuffed Olive is a contemporary-themed bar that makes over 100 martinis. With encouraging specials every night, you are sure to find a good deal that won’t break the bank. The Stuffed Olive also offers globally inspired appetizers and entrées for you to enjoy. The best deal is the Monday night special of half-price martinis and select appetizers. You can get a plate of delectable bruschetta for $3. I tried the Flirtini, which is a fruity concoction well worth trying. Men, you can drink a Flirtini, too.

The Lift offers an entirely different experience from The Stuffed Olive because of its dimly lit atmosphere and collection of paintings from local artists that cover the walls. They offer 33 different martinis and a list of homemade liquors. One of the best deals The Lift offers is their Wednesday special: being two martinis for the price of one.

I enjoyed the 4th Street Mimosa martini, which is made with champagne, orange juice and a splash of fruity vodka. The Lift also has occasional live music, making them a more lively scene compared to The Stuffed Olive.

Either place is a great way to start your evening or spend your entire night, and the deals add to the experience. Yes, if done right, college kids can definitely enjoy the occasional martini.
