Kevin Gannon talks Twitter beef
Kevin Gannon, history professor at Grand View University, also known as @thetattooedprof on Twitter, recently got into a heated Twitter battle of 20-plus tweets.
This is just one of the many times Gannon and Dinesh D’Souza have not seen eye to eye. Gannon and several other historians have never agreed with D’Souzas views and often reply to him with corrections.
As multiple tweets were being exchanged back and forth on February 28, it was one reply from D’Souza that got under Gannon’s skin.
“Kevin you are a professor at a university no one has heard of. You might show a little intellectual humility. At least try to address the issue at hand. Pigeon jokes are not a way to win arguments, at least not in the Ivy League where I was educated,” tweeted D’Souza.
Gannon then went on to quote the tweet and followed it with 21 other tweets directed at D’Souza. Dr. Gannon defended Grand View students and teachers along with every other non-elite college around the country.
Gannon said he believes each individual deserves a chance at education, and he tweeted about all the ethnicities, programs and encounters he has had with students at Grand View that have made him love his job and place of work.
Grand View’s mission statement is to engage, equip and empower students to fulfill their individual potential and serve society.
“Grand View University is a liberal arts education for the people,” Gannon said. “ALL the people. We will give you the chance, when others might not, to succeed and to have a higher educational experience that isn’t a mass-produced curriculum or a series of packed lecture halls.”
Viewfinder decided to interview Gannon to gain a better understanding of the controversy and get his take on why Grand View matters.
