*Each issue, we’ll be asking the Grand View community to speak up about their opinions on a subject. This issue’s topic is whether marijuana should be legalized.

“I think it should be legal because I’ve seen data that supports its medical benefits. As far as recreational use, I think it’s not that harmful and does less damage to people’s lives than alcohol. I absolutely think medical marijuana should be legalized and recreationally it can be legalized and heavily taxed.”

“It helps a person going through chemotherapy with nausea. It helps get rid of seizures. It even helps with anxiety. It has so many positive medical benefits. If someone really wants to smoke it recreationally, Iowa can sure use their tax dollars.”

“I don’t think the harms and risks are as bad as alcohol, which is legal. I feel like people shouldn’t be jailed for possession of a plant-based drug; there are so many people who are incarcerated and it’s a waste of money. There are more people in jail for marijuana than rape.”
