Grand View shooting team wins national title
Established in the fall of 2016, Grand View University now offers co-ed shooting sports as part of the athletic department on campus. The team was recruited, commenced practice, and began its competitive season in October. Consisting of seven males and five females, the shooting team sharpened its skills in several invitationals throughout the year. Some of the victories under their belt include wins over South Western Community College (SWCC), Simpson College, and Indian Hills Community College. The team’s collective effort throughout the season ultimately led to their performance at the ACUI Collegiate Shotgun Nationals in April.
The ACUI Collegiate Shotgun Nationals was an intensive event lasting six days total. The GV shooting team scored very well, earning the highest national title; a very high honor, especially for a team that has only been in existence for one school year. Under the secure eye of head coach Charlie Mundy and assistant coaches Cody Mundy and Steven Sereg, the team’s scores were superior and they returned home with a national championship, an outstanding feather in Grand View’s cap.
We sat down with Hunter Kloewer, GV freshman and shooting team member, to discuss this year’s shooting experience, team dynamic, and the sport’s future at Grand View.
