Humans of Grand View Dr. Kathryn Duffy
Dr. Kathryn Duffy has been a professor since 1995; she has been directing choirs since 1981.
I have a very musical family. My mom and dad met through choir. My mom was a new teacher, and my dad was singing in the church choir. They needed somebody to play piano for them, and someone said, ‘Oh I know the new teacher plays piano; lets ask her.’ So my mom started accompanying them, and that is how they met. When we were little, we were learning our letters — the ABC’s — and then my mom taught us the piano, so as we were learning to read we also were learning to read music. I think my brother was 5 and I was 4, and then my younger brothers the same deal. I’ve always done music from then on. We would have music nights at home where we would play and my dad would [too], and I just loved those when we would play music at home as a family.”
