Meet GV’s AIGA chapter
On November 15, the AIGA club held a workshop day for freshmen and sophomores to come in and ask for help on design projects.
“The AIGA club schedules other fun events as well,” Price said. “We had an art night a couple weeks ago, and we all got together and made random art and colored pages for fun.”
AIGA is a national network of graphic designers. AIGA once stood for “American Institute of Graphic Artists,” but is now simply know as “AIGA, the professional association for design.”
Sarah Price, the president of the AIGA club at Grand View, said that AIGA goes to many events outside of campus to learn about how to create resumes, portfolios, cover letters, and more. There are numerous workshops they attends as well.
The AIGA club needs at least ten members to be a club, and they currently have twelve. They are not a part of Viking Council, which makes them an unofficial club on campus.
Price said she paid $50 to become an AIGA member, which allows her get into many events for free and receive various discounts. However, she said people do not have to pay to be a part of the club. If they do pay, they can have access to a free portfolio website and get a discount on different software.
Bailey Barnett, vice president of the AIGA club, helps Price plan meetings and events and recruit new members.
Barnett transferred to Grand View last year, and that is when she started getting involved in the club. The club, she said, is mostly made up of graphic design majors, with a couple graphic journalism majors as well.
“The AIGA club takes a lot of time up,” Barnett said.” I spend a lot of time getting everything organized, but it’s fun.”
