Textbooks now purchasable on GV student accounts

The fall semester is about over at Grand View, which means students will already be thinking about buying their books for next semester.

Although that may sound scary to some students, there is some good news. Starting in January, when second semester classes begin, Grand View is implementing a program where students can make payments for textbooks and other necessary school supplies using their GV charge account.

Mike Shupp, director of the bookstore and campus services, came up with this idea to help the students who aren’t able to pay for their books up front.

“For quite a while, I was aware of students putting books back on the shelf,” Shupp said. “And when I asked them why, a lot of times they just didn’t have the cash at the moment.”

Students will be able to pay for their books and supplies by putting the costs onto their GV account. That means more student loans can be taken out to help purchase these items.

However, Business Office Controller Julie Bantz warned students who may be interested in using this method that the extra purchases will affect their payment plan.

“The same thing happens with parking fines; those plans then have to be adjusted,” Bantz said.

She also suggested that students should notify their parents, especially if they are the ones paying for it.

If there are students who want more information, they can be on the lookout for emails from Shupp regarding dates and other specific details for using your GV account to purchase books and supplies for the spring semester.
