Now is the time to submit any art, print or photography to BiFrost, the campus annual magazine. The theme this year is Psychedelic Bridge, which encourages bright colors, abstract and creativity.

“BiFrost is the Nordic word meaning the connection between the land of the humans and the land of the gods,” Dr. Paul Brooke, overseeing adviser, said. “I think what we’re going to get is more experimental work, very creative work and very colorful art and photography.”

Managing Editor Kelby Arnold (JR) said, “I like the overlapping of humans and nature and different forms of existence, so I kind of want to include that. It’s kind of like the third space where anything is possible.”

Brooke also said there is slight censorship in the submissions to deter an artist’s creativity.

Arnold said anyone can submit their work and they don’t have to be completely artistic. For students submitting their work, there are monetary prizes for first, second and third place of $50, $30, $20, respectively.

Senior Alex Roth, English major, entered BiFrost twice, and won second place in the spring of 2014 and won first place the spring of 2015. This fall, Roth approached Dr. Brooke about becoming an editor for this issue. He works with fellow student Nate Thesing (Sr.) English major.

Thesing had some of his friends submit a photograph of his last year for the magazine. His friends are still congratulating him after seeing the photo from last spring. Thesing feels he could reach more people and get a better response submitting his work to BiFrost than getting lost in the shuffle of a bigger publication.  He thinks that the publication is an intriguing way of seeing a different side to someone.

“It’s interesting to see what other people have going on in their lives, besides just their majors,” Thesing said.

In the past years there have been as many as 32 students published in BiFrost.

The magazine has been under Brooke’s supervision for the last 14 years and it is funded by the Student of the Publication Fund.

The last submission date is November 27.
