Review of Halsey’s “Badlands”

Halsey is an emerging singer from New Jersey. Her new 11-track album “Badlands” was released August 28.

Halsey describes herself as “tri-bi,” which means “biracial, bisexual and bipolar.” This is apparent in her lyrics and gives the listener insight into her unusual mind. Her music combines upbeat rhythms with dark lyrics that contradict each other, and upon listening, you become involved with her feelings of fear, loneliness and despair. Her voice is strong with little use of auto-tune and voice corrections, making the album appealing for listeners.

The song “Ghost” is a personal song about a love she had that is now gone. When listening to this, I was brought back to the time I got my heart broken by a guy who I thought was promising. He disappeared on me, and I never saw or talked to him again.

Halsey’s “Badlands” is a good choice to listen to because it gives a plethora of different sounds and lyrics that will make you want to hear more. She has a combination of sad songs and upbeat songs and puts passion into every single one.

I rank this album 4.5 out of 5 because of the emotion it feeds the listener.
