Des Moines Ramen Club
The DSM Ramen Club was not at all intentional. The club itself started off as
a challenge that Des Moines native Trish Myers set for herself to cook for small groups as she gained knowledge in cooking. The Ramen Club organically formed and became a consistent weekly thing. Word of mouth travels fast in a city like Des Moines and the small club grew when Gas Lamp reached out about forming a partnership.
“If I can cook it, I want to share it with people and I figured out for myself that I love that instant gratification of cooking a good meal and seeing someone enjoy that right away,” Myers said.
This year they had their first event with Gas Lamp on October 7. Myers said she will rotate ramen menus each week. The Ramen Club’s first menu for the month of October is two ramens, miso brussels and grilled brie with kimchi. The Ramen Club’s goal is to expose taste buds to new things. For COVID-19 precautions, there will be limited dining in space and carry out orders are available.
After 9 p.m. they only allow in people who are 21 or older because the venue is a bar.
Gas Lamp has a great vibe and setting to have a good time. Taking pride in their vintage throwback vibe, this is a bar that has its own trends and ways of doing things. There is nice smooth lighting throughout with local bands playing while you enjoy a great meal. They also incorporate entertainment such as poetry and stand-up comedy. This is a great complement to the cultural fusion aspect that Myers is trying to portray to her crowd.
The Ramen Club has also been connected to the community through social media. They even gave participants the opportunity to send in artwork for the club’s logo and merchandise. They have chosen to collaborate with local artist Dalia Rose for the art on t-shirts for the October release at The Ramen Club.
With COVID-19, separate catering has slowed down, so Myers has put her full energy into this event.
Stop by Gas Lamp any Wednesday night in November from 6 to 11 p.m. to see what new dishes Myers will add to the menu.
