GV’s ‘Defino Twinz’ go viral

With over 8,300 subscribers, Ally and Gabby Defino’s YouTube Channel, “DeFino Twinz,” took off the summer of 2015.

“It was two summers ago, and I was just really bored at home. I didn’t know what to do all summer, so I decided why not try,” Ally said.

Ally started making comical videos about her daily life in the beginning until her sister decided to join and the viewers positively reacted to their interactions with each other.

After gaining more subscribers, Ally and Gabby started making a profit off their videos on YouTube. They are both connected through a website called “FullScreen.” The website pays them based on the amount of views their videos receive. They make approximately $30 a month.

“We never started YouTube for money or the fame. We did it because we enjoyed it,” Ally said.

The Defino Twins both enjoy watching YouTube videos over watching television. Ally said Shane Dawson is her favorite person to watch on YouTube because he is funny.

The video that started their stream of followers was their “Fifth Harmony Reaction” video. They posted a reaction to their album and were soon getting requests to make more videos.

The Defino twins create story-time videos explaining a story that had happened in their lives. They also create many reaction videos which receive the most views.

“I’ve always dreamt of having that life of not going to work and just filming videos in my house,” Ally said.

Starting their YouTube channel helped Ally and Gabby both choose their majors, which is digital media production. Their dad was pushing them to major in business because he said it would help them with anything, but they didn’t think that would be fun.

Both of their parents support them and enjoy their videos. Ally and Gabby said that people message them telling them they are big fans and the girls are so flattered.

“Last night we lost ten subscribers, and I woke up this morning kind of sad, but we got to keep going. It’s like a game to see how far you can get,” Ally said.

Gabby said gaining more and more subscribers is addicting. She explained that you want to continuously get more and keep raising the number.

Ally and Gabby said that they were in Hy-Vee a month or two ago, and a person walked over to their mom and asked if they were the “DeFino Twinz.” The girls were shocked that someone recognized them from their channel.

The girls both work off of each other to create a more entertaining video for their viewers and fans while still being college students.
