Unraveling the mystery of GV’s new signs

Grand View students returned from winter break to see that campus had been decorated with new signs. Of course this raised a lot of questions from faculty, and students. What was the point? Why did Grand View need them? How were they funded?

“I don’t really see a point of the signs, I haven’t even seen the maps,” said Breon Glass, a junior at Grand View. However, Mettea Detrick, a senior at Grand View who works at the front desk of the Student Center, had a different point of view.

“Working here at the front desk, I know a lot of people come in and they say that they don’t know where their going at all, they say that it would be nice to have signs around. Since Christmas break we have received a lot of compliments,” said Mattea.

Matteas’ statement is actually exactly what the administration was trying to accomplish with the installment of the signs. Kendall Dillon, the Marketing director at Grand View, who worked on the project, gave some reasoning to the new signs.

“The signs are really just to help students, visitors, anyone who comes to campus find what they’re looking for. Before we had signs we were sort of just a campus with a bunch of buildings,” said Dillon. This should clear the air as to why the signs were added to campus. But that still does not answer how they were funded.

The signs were part of the expansion project Grand View started when they built the student center. They were just the last part of the project. The funds came from capital budget. No money was taken from student tuition or any department to fund the signs.

Although not all students, or faculty members at Grand View may truly see a reason for the signs, they do serve a purpose.
