New home for GV athletics
The beginning of this school year brings many changes to campus. While much of the focus has been on the new Student Center, there are big changes happening in the athletics department as well. Beginning this fall Grand View athletic teams are all coming together in one new conference.
Troy Plummer, athletics director, said he is excited to change conferences to the Heart of America (HAAC), because now all of the sports will be under the same umbrella.
“All of the sports that weren’t included in the old conference are now going to be conference sports,” Plummer said.
Troy Plummer, athletics director, said he is excited to change conferences to the Heart of America (HAAC), because now all of the sports will be in the same conference.
“Before football was in a different conference than the rest of the sports. Now we can bring all of our sports under the same umbrella,” Plummer said.
Plummer said it was a collective decision among the athletics department, the coaches and President Henning.
“President Henning came in and talked to the coaches. We all felt comfortable this was the right move. Once we got to that point, everybody was on board and everybody was excited,” Plummer said.
Grand View will be competing against 11 other institutions in the HAAC, which are all located in the Midwest. These institutions include: Avila University, Baker University, Benedictine College, Central Methodist University, Culver-Stockton College, Evangel University, Graceland University, MidAmerica Nazarene University, Missouri Valley College and Peru State College.
Plummer said, “If we grow this conference the right way and do it the right way, we can be one of the top conferences in the country based on the schools.”
