Going once, going twice… SOLD.

The third annual Gifted Vikings Auction went live April 1st and will run through April 15th. This auction allows students, staff, faculty and alumni can donate their services or items related to their job or hobby. Everything from plane rides to homemade cookies is available for bidding. It was created for the purpose of celebrating vocation in a tangible way on campus. Last year $2,175 was raised and this year’s goal is $2,250.

Wendy Fedler, academic advisor, will donate a custom made prayer shawl to the highest bidder.

“I think the auction is for a good cause and help people show things they’re passionate about outside of what they do,” Fedler said. Typically faculty and staff are the biggest contributors, but student involvement seems to be growing with each year.

Kate Glenney, Administrative Assistant at Luther Memorial Church shares, “It’s not just a garage sale. We remind students that the auction is to promote things that you can make, or an experience you would love to share with someone.”

Entries are shared online and are available to the GV community to bid on. Each year, the proceeds from the auction are donated to the GV Food Pantry, which is currently a large cupboard located in the Viking House. Not only do they accept donated food items, but students are also welcome to speak to Pastor Russ Lackey if they need food.

This year, Glenney and Lackey plan to use the proceeds to take the food pantry to the next level. The money would go to developing and funding the pantry to get more food items, space, and shelving. There are prizes offered to students, staff and faculty to motivate them to participate.

“It’s really fun to be a part of and watch this all happen. To see all the gifts people have that you might not know otherwise,” Glenney said. All of the money goes towards a good cause, and people are able to learn more about others in the GV community.
