Newly elected Viking Council president and vice president challenge current officials’ success
Kendall Antle, biology sophomore, was elected president of the 2016-2017 Viking Council, along with running mate and vice president, Jordan Donels, biology-biochemistry sophomore. The pair have both spent a term on Viking Council and are looking forward to their next step on the leadership team.
Along with Viking Council, both students are involved in other activities on campus. Donels is on the track and field and volleyball teams, and Antle helps film for the football team. The duo were both involved in student council in high school, shared a love for politics and are looking forward to the responsibility that goes along with being a leader.
Antle and Donels have big plans and goals for Grand View and plan to start as soon as their term begins in May. Their campaign slogan read, “Building for the future,” and that is exactly their plan.
“We want to help shape the campus and at the same prepare ourselves for our own future,” Antle said. “We both feel like we can make a positive impact on that.”
During their term Antle and Donels hope to better inform students of the available committees on campus, promote the generation of new committees and encourage students to take advantage of the student discounts available. They also plan on hosting a meeting with other universities’ student government representatives to brainstorm and discuss ideas, issues and problems they have.
“We are going to try to get a step ahead of how this past Viking Council did,” Donels said. “We would like to get things done quicker so we can get more things done in our term.”
“We want to be more proactive rather than reactive,” Antle said.
Antle and Donels said they want the student body to feel comfortable and welcome to talk to them about issues they want to address. They are both looking forward to their terms are excited to take on the task of Viking Council president and vice president.
