Art and design lecturer Karen Doty was recently named an emerging artist for the Des Moines Art Festival. Doty entered this contest last year and sold almost all of her artwork at the event.

“I used this contest to get my name out there and show my work without having to put forth a lot of work and money to pay for a booth in the beginning,” Doty said.

Since last year’s art show, she has illustrated a children’s book, and she hopes to do more of those types of illustrations in the future.
