Reporter Mike Kelly set out to find some of Grand View’s best dressed.
T.J. Rude
“I kind of like the vintage style, the ruffed up boots, the khakis and a little plaid. It’s not too flashy but it gives off a professional look. Am I a hipster? I would say no, but others might think so. Dressing up a little bit helps me stay disciplined and gets me in the mindset to achieve my goals. I would hope that my style conveys a look of professionalism.” T.J. Rude (Jr.)
Missy Farni
“I really just go with what I’m comfortable with. I mean, I really wouldn’t say I have any specific style. I just pull from different kinds of things, and I guess I just figure out what works well from my body type as well as what makes me feel like I’m expressing myself. It’s because usually I’m a pretty shy and closed person, and it’s kind of a way to express myself without having to actually go out there and say things and be this crazy, charismatic person but it still gives me that edge. What my fashion style means to me is that I feel good in the skin that helps me be more of a positive and uplifting person through my style.” Missy Farni (So.)
Dr. Ken Jones
“I’ve worn bow ties for a long time. As Dr. Who says, bow ties are cool. Everybody wears a straight tie. Why would I wanna look like everybody else? I wear tweed. I think that grounds me in tradition, history and also academia. Why do I where a beard? Because it grows! I’m glad hipsters have brought beards back because I think a good beard is a good thing to have. When I teach a class, I want to look good because I think it says something to students about the value I place on my work and on them.” Dr. Ken Jones (Professor of Theology and Philosophy)
Tre Porter
“I wear a lot of business casual things, chinos, navy, beige, with a lot of button up shirts and polos. I always have to have on a watch. It something that makes me who I am and I feel naked without one. I like to wear a tie from time to time depending on the occasion. I think socks are the biggest thing right now. If you switch up your sock game and where a pattered sock that really pops out there, you don’t see high waters, you see these cool socks. To quote my mom, 'Dress for the job you want.'” Tre Porter (Sr.)
